China has been known to be the "enemy of the net" for years now, however a new provision would further restrict free Internet use in the country as China is proposing changes, involving updating the country's "Methods for Governance of Internet Information Services" by outlawing the use of nicknames by forum users or bloggers.
According to the proposal, all Internet information service providers that allow users to post on the Internet must assure that the said users are registering accounts under their real, legal names. Although it doesn't mean that their name is constantly displayed, however nicknames will provide no prtection from the government.
The draft of the proposal is open for public comment until July 6th, however given China's track record with the open and free Internet, it's unlikely that the modification to the current use will be blocked.
