CHESTER — A fight with a cousin Friday led to two young Chester girls spending Father’s Day without their dad.
On
Friday, officers found 24-year-old Bradley McAteer of 103 Tremont St.,
Chester, beaten and unresponsive, according to Chester Police officials.
McAteer was flown to Carolinas Medical Center in Charlotte, where he
died Saturday, leaving behind a wife and two daughters, Alora, 3, and
Ava, 4 months.
Anthony O’Brian Isom, 23, of Chester, has been
charged with murder, while Crystal Harley Pardue, 26, is charged with
accessory, according to officials. Bond was denied for both suspects.
The
couple was found in Myrtle Beach over the weekend after police alerted
other agencies. Around 12:30 a.m. Monday, Myrtle Beach bicycle officers
found the couple walking along Ocean Boulevard, according to The Sun
News. They were arrested without incident.
Amanda Mobley, McAteer’s cousin, said one of the suspects, Isom, is a second cousin.
“We
grew up together,” she said Tuesday of McAteer and Isom. “We grew up as
siblings. ... We always liked to swim. ... We liked to hang out and
have cookouts.”
Mobley had learned of the assault Friday and rushed to the hospital to see McAteer.
“He was unconscious,” she said. “I talked to him, but of course he couldn't talk to me.”
But she says she still hasn’t grasped what happened.
“I
don't understand,” Mobley said. “I can't wrap my head around it. ...
Both of them are my cousins, and I can't believe that as close as they
were Anthony would do something like this.
“The other side of the family is hurting, too.”
McAteer's funeral will be 2 p.m. Wednesday at Chester Second Baptist Church, 729 Village Drive.
