Heat records continue to fall by the wayside in the Rockies, Plains,
and parts of the South in an impressive late June heat wave.
This past Saturday, Las Animas, Colo.
tied not only its all time record high of 114 degrees, but also the
state record for Colorado (reached both at Las Animas on July 1, 1933
and in Bennett on July 11, 1888).
Then, the heat beat went on Monday.
All-time record highs were tied in Denver (105) and set in Sidney, Neb. (109). June record highs were tied or set in 7 cities, including Galveston, Texas (100...also their record earliest-in-season 100+ temperature), Hot Springs, Ark. (107), and Rawlins, Wyo. (97).
Through Monday, there have now been 6 straight days of daily record heat in Alamosa, Colo., 4 straight days of record highs in Pueblo and Colo. Springs, and 4 straight days of triple-digit heat in Denver. The all-time record 100+ streak for Denver is 5 days.

Now,
compare the forecast map for Tuesday to the one for Thursday just below
it and you will see what we mean about the heat spreading. Triple
digit heat spreads into the Ohio Valley and Southeast.
Cincinnati last saw June triple-digit heat 24 years ago, during the torrid summer of 1988. The all-time June record high in St. Louis is 105 set in 1952 and, during a Dust Bowl year (1936). In Nashville,
a torrid stretch of triple-digit heat is expected starting Thursday.
As in Cincinnati, this could be the most intense heat wave for June,
there, since 1988. Finally, the last time Atlanta experienced "Century Club" heat in June was in 1954.
This blistering heat wave will continue through the weekend in the Deep South, Ohio Valley, Plains, and Rockies.
