Olympic champ Crawford from tiny Van Wyck tries for 2012 London games

Van Wyck native Shawn Crawford, middle, is followed by Britain's Rikki Fifton, right, and American Mike Rodgers as he wins the men's 150-meter competition during the 2010 Great City Games in Manchester, England.

— Across the Catawba River heading east from Rock Hill on S.C. 5, just into Lancaster County, the first thing anybody sees is a green road sign near the intersection of S.C. 75 pointing to a tiny crossroads.
It also points to greatness.
On the sign is an arrow pointing left and the words “Van Wyck.”
Van Wyck has about 250 people in it – so small it can be pronounced Van “Wike” or Van “Wack” or Van “Wick” and there aren’t enough people around for an argument or fistfight over it.
The community has a gun store and a post office, a few churches and a tiny community center. The brickworks that was the town’s only employer closed a couple of years ago.
Still, Van Wyck boasts something that lots of other places would love to be able to boast about. It’s written right there at the bottom of those green highway signs pointing the way to Van Wyck:
“Home of Shawn Crawford 2004 Olympic Gold & Silver Medalist.”

Ann Curry
and NBC are negotiating her exit from "Today" and the hang-up is money ...  sources connected with the network tell TMZ.

Our sources say Savannah Guthrie has already made her deal with the network to succeed Ann as co-anchor of "Today," but the snag is the amount of money Ann will get.

As we first reported, Ann gets $10 million a year.  She is one year into a 3-year contract, and from what we're hearing NBC does not want to pay her $20 million for the balance of the contract.

Sources tell us Ann wants the full $20 mil and her exit papers.  NBC wants to pay her $10 mil and give her a foreign correspondent job.  And therein lies the hang-up.

The network could pay her the $20 mil and then prohibit her from working anywhere else for 2 years.  But we're told they don't want to shell out that kind of dough, so Ann's lawyer and NBC are haggling.

NBC wants to make the switch quickly ... certainly before the Olympics so they can showcase Savannah.  We're hearing the goal is to make the announcement late this week or early next.

0622_flojo_daughterFlorence Griffith-Joyner's daughter is following in her mother's famous Olympic footsteps ... heading to the U.S. Track and Field trials later this month ... but the only thing she'll be running is her mouth.

Mary Joyner -- a 21-year-old aspiring singer -- recently competed on "America's Got Talent" ... and impressed some of the honchos who run the Team USA Olympic Track and Field Team.

In fact, a rep for the org. tells TMZ ... they were so blown away by her performance, they extended her an offer to sing the national anthem at the U.S Track and Field trials in Eugene, Oregon later this month.

The rep says, "It's great to see that Mary is achieving her goals and dreams just as her mother did."

In case you didn't know ... Mary's mother -- who passed away in 1998 -- won 3 Olympic gold medals in the 1988 Seoul games and was considered the fastest woman on the planet ... she holds the world record for both the 100 m and 200 m sprints.

Mary might strike gold herself ... she got 3 yes votes on "AGT," and will advance to the next round (below).
