This
tragic shooting that occurred at the University Heights off-campus
apartments for
Auburn University, is reminiscent of the
Trojan War, with
the blood spilt having been shed over a woman.
This past Saturday, June 9th,
shooter Desmonte Leonard, 22, and a
friend of his got into a verbal altercation with 20-year-old Demario
Pitts, and his friend 23-year-old Turquorius Vines, over a female.
Vines told police that Mr. Leonard and his accomplice approached him
and his friend Mr. Pitts and began arguing with them over a woman,
however it is uncertain if the woman in question was present at the
party, however we have to assume that she was considering that Mr. Vines
stated that he had never seen the men before that night.
Apparently the argument got pretty intense which ultimately lead to
Turquorius Vines admitting that he punched one of the aggressors in the
face, and his friend Pitts hit both of their opponents over the head
with a bottle. Right after that according to Vines, gun fire errupted
in the party which lead to numerous casualties and deaths.
It hasn't been revealed if the alleged shooter Desmonte Leonard or
his accomplice put hands on Mr. Vines or Pitts prior to Mr. Vines and
Pitts swinging at them. What is clear is that if Mr. Vines just simply
got angry with the men about the argument, and swung first at the
shooter foolishly, you can bet your bottom dollar he is regretting his
actions now.
Turqurious tweeted the following regarding his current sorrows after losing his friend Demario Pitts to senseless violence:
"It's like I lost a lung. I don't know how I'm going to survive this."
Along with Demario Pitts, two other students were killed and three
more wounded.
Auburn football players Ed
Christian and LaDarius
Phillips were shot and killed by stray bullets from Desmonte Leonard's
gun. Another Auburn football player, Eric Mack, was also shot but
luckily for him, his injuries are not life-threatening, meanwhile John
Robertson was shot in the head and is currently in critical condition,
and Xavier Moss was shot but later released from the hospital yesterday,
Sunday, June 10th.
The alleged shooter Desmonte Leonard has been charged with
capital
murder, however he remains at large and police are working diligently to
apprehend him. Forensics teams have been scanning the crime scene
tirelessly to try and uncover any and all clues that could lead to Mr.
Leonard's arrest.
Let this be a lesson to everyone growing up in this violent society
we live in today: Think before you act, because one simple action, such
as punching someone for disrespecting you, can cost you and/or your
loved ones, their lives.
Hopefully Leonard and anyone else responsible for the shooting will
be brought to justice sooner rather than later. It's hard to imagine
how these families are dealing with this.
