Despite the numerous rumors and small talk about the Memphis Grizzlies possibly trading Rudy Gay, the Grizzlies owner Michael Heisley has claimed otherwise.
"We're not liking to trade Rudy Gay," Heisley said in a statement Friday. "We're not shopping him around. Period. Do we sit around and say 'What if we traded Rudy, who could we get?' No. Right now, Rudy is part of the future of this team."
Gay is due $16.5 million next season, and that's a lot considering the Grizzlies are already paying both Zach Randolph and Marc Gasol the big money, along with the prep to keep O.J. Mayo from skipping town.
Now, keep in mind, anything is possible between now and the upcoming NBA Draft, and, of course, training camp in early Fall. Although Memphis is a solid, young team coming up in the Western Conference, their competition is right on their tail, along with the Thunder ahead of them. The L.A. Clippers look to be a team on the rise, and Memphis doesn't have much money to spend in free-agency.
Again, anything is possible between now and Tip-Off 2012.
